AM#5.
A rare Argyll Highlander's Dirk.
A rare Argyll Highlander's Dirk of the 91st Regiment
established in 1864. These dirks are few. I have only seen four for sale in my
50 years of collecting and dealing in Scottish weapons. The dirk is 17"
overall, the blade 11". There is wear on both sides of the blade. There is
a VR on right side of blade and a XC Argyllshire Highlanders on left side. The
pommel stone as a ½" chip on the side of it. It was cleaned at some point
and who ever did it replaced the foil under the stone with a silver color
instead of the yellowish/orange that was originally under it. So the pommel
stone looks a difference color from the knife and fork stones. Side by side
knife and fork are in very good condition. The maker is Marchal & Sons, 87
George Street, in Edinburgh.
Price: $4,500.00
