Jacobite Dirk #5
I have had an interest in dirks for many years and, just like Patrick, I have a love of fine Scottish Dirks. This project began on a visit to Patrick’s home where he came up with the idea of making a dirk out of a three hundred year old sword blade that he had acquired.
There were markings on the blade that indicated it was an Andrea Ferreria blade but, about that, we could not really be sure. On the other hand, that the steel on the blade is of the finest quality, you can be assured.
Patrick gave me the honor of designing the piece and I contacted Jeff Burns who is a retired Boeing engineer. He worked on the drawings from my design and we came up with what you see now.
To carry out these drawings, I wanted to find a highly skilled blade and dirk maker. I immediately thought of Rob Miller of Castle Keep fame on the Isle of Skye. I felt very strongly that the sword blade should be formed in Scotland and, as Rob is a man who knows what a dirk of this kind should look and feel like, I sent the blade to him.
Rob fashioned this one-of-a-kind piece of history in a manner similar to Scottish armorers of the past. He cut and worked the blade and carved the handle into what was and is a true fighting dirk.
For my part, I fashioned the scabbard and the sterling silver fittings in a style befitting any Highland chief’s dirk of the 18th century.
This very fine, handsome Scottish Highlander’s fighting Dirk is a product of Patrick, some very fine craftsmen and myself. If you ever needed to make a full Highland charge, you could go into battle with no finer a weapon in your hand.
The dirk will come with its original drawings signed by the blade maker and the engineer.
The dirk's blade is fourteen and half inches long. The finial is made of steel as was the custom of the day. The wooden handle and the scabbard have sterling, unmarked silver fittings. If required, the dirk could come with a scabbard with brass fittings for a nominal fee.
The price $3,950.00
